The United Arab Emirates summoned the Israeli ambassador on Friday over Israel’s attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar.
This was reported by the KAN television network.
Prior to the strike on the Qatari capital Doha on Tuesday, relations between Abu Dhabi and the far-right Israeli government were strained due to Israel’s planned annexation of the West Bank, which the UAE said would be a “red line”.
Israel’s attempt to kill Hamas political leaders has drawn international condemnation, but on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Qatar to either expel Hamas officials or “hold them accountable, because if you don’t, we will.”
The UAE, the most prominent Arab country to normalize relations with Israel in 30 years, condemned Netanyahu’s statements as “hostile,” while its President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, toured the Gulf Arab states to coordinate positions on the Israeli attack.
