In The Hague (Netherlands), fragments of the opera “Leyli and Majnun” were performed on the stage of the De Vaillant theater in honor of the 140th anniversary of the outstanding Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
According to AZERTAC, the event was organized with the support of the State Committee on Affairs of Diaspora of Azerbaijan and the “Odlar Yurdu” society. Members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Netherlands, as well as representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora from different cities of the country, took part in it.
In her opening speech, the chairman of the “Odlar Yurdu” society, Firangiz Baghirova, told the audience about the life and work of the great composer, as well as about the opera “Leyli and Majnun” itself.
After that, the national anthems of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands were performed, and the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the independence of the Motherland was honored with a minute of silence.
Mammad Ahmadzade, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Netherlands, also made a speech, sharing his impressions of the event.
The role of Leyli was performed by Vusala Jabir, a former soloist of the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theater, and the role of Majnun was performed by Nakhmetaga Aliyev, a student of Arif Babayev. They were accompanied on the tar by Javid Salimov and on the piano by Sabina Mammadova.
At the end of the concert, the participants exchanged impressions and took commemorative photographs.
