European socialists intend to exclude Fico’s party from their ranks

The Party of European Socialists (PES), which unites socialist and social-democratic factions from EU countries and the United Kingdom, intends to exclude the ruling party in Slovakia, “Direction – Social Democracy” (SMER), from its ranks.

This is reported by Euractiv citing sources.

According to their data, the issue of exclusion will be presented by the chairman of the association, former Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven. The decision will be approved at the PES congress in October in Amsterdam, the portal writes.

As Euractiv notes, the exclusion is related, in particular, to the position of the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, towards Russia.
