In the Islamic Republic of Iran, the death sentence was carried out against Babak Sheibani, who was accused of cooperating with the Israeli foreign intelligence agency Mossad.
The decision to impose the ultimate penalty was made after a trial and approved by the country’s Supreme Court. According to official data, during the trial, Sheibani’s guilt in transmitting intelligence information to agents acting in the interests of Israel was proven.
This case is another episode in the long-standing shadow confrontation between the intelligence services of Iran and Israel. Tehran regularly accuses the Israeli intelligence of organizing subversive acts on its territory, including cyberattacks on critical infrastructure and targeted killings of scientists involved in the Iranian nuclear program.
