South Korea, together with the United States, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the goal of complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and presented a three-stage strategy to achieve it. This was stated by Wi Sung-lac, Director of the National Security Office of the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea.
According to him, the ultimate goal remains the same, “whether North Korea likes it or not.” To achieve this, Seoul will adhere to a clear three-step plan:
Freezing North Korea’s nuclear program;
Reduction of the existing nuclear arsenal;
Complete dismantling of nuclear facilities and materials.
The senior official also stressed that, despite the lack of response from Pyongyang, the priority is to resume dialogue.
“Our government has already taken a number of steps to reduce tensions without compromising security, and we will continue to work on building trust,” he said, adding that dialogue is the key to moving forward.
