The rapidly growing flow of private cars to the capital of Azerbaijan is provoking serious transport problems, forcing the authorities to seek effective solutions. The Agency for Land Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANYA) is considering the possibility of introducing paid entry zones in Baku as one of the measures to combat congestion and environmental degradation. This was announced by the head of the agency, Anar Rzayev, at a press conference.
According to Rzayev, the excessive number of private vehicles entering the city daily leads to several critical consequences:
- Massive traffic jams that significantly reduce overall traffic intensity.
- Difficulties in the operation of public transport and micromobility means.
- Deterioration of the environmental situation due to an increase in harmful emissions.
- Increase in noise pollution that negatively affects the quality of the urban environment.
The introduction of paid entry is one of the measures aimed at limiting the flow of private cars to the central districts, encouraging the use of public transport, and thereby reducing the load on the road network and improving the environmental situation in the capital.
Although the specific timing and details of the implementation of the paid zone system have not yet been announced, the statement by the head of ANYA indicates the seriousness of the government’s intentions in the fight against the transport collapse of Baku.
