The Central Bank of Azerbaijan today, September 25, announced the launch of a new large-scale project — a regular survey of the population to study its financial situation. The goal of the initiative is to obtain an accurate picture of economic sentiment in the country to improve macroeconomic forecasting.
As part of the study, which will be conducted quarterly in digital format, CBA specialists will examine financial behavior and intentions of households. The questions will cover not only consumer spending, but also the level of debt burden of citizens, as well as their expectations regarding personal financial situation and the country’s economy as a whole.
Participation in the survey is voluntary, and all received data will be completely anonymous. As emphasized at the Central Bank, the confidentiality of respondents is guaranteed. The selection of participants will be based on various social criteria, such as income level, employment sector, and education, to ensure the representativeness of the sample.
According to the head of the CBA Statistics Department, Samir Nasirov, the collected information will form the basis of the regulator’s predictive models. Understanding the real financial situation in families will allow the Central Bank to make more balanced and timely decisions to maintain the stability of the country’s economy.
