Guterres on Peace Agreements between Baku and Yerevan

Peace agreements between Azerbaijan and Armenia, reached in Washington, are a positive event for the entire world.

As reported by Report, UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated this today during the 80th session of the General Assembly.

The Secretary-General called for an end to ongoing armed conflicts worldwide, including settler expansion, violence, and the looming threat of annexation in the Gaza sector.

“Everywhere — from Haiti to Yemen, Myanmar, the Sahel and beyond — we must choose the path of peace based on international law. The past year brought glimpses of hope: for example, the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand and the agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia mediated by the US. But too many crises remain uncontrolled,” the Secretary-General emphasized.

As a reminder, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, was on a visit to Washington on August 7-8. During the visit, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a joint declaration in the White House with the mediation of US President Donald Trump. Additionally, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed a Peace and Interstate Relations Agreement in the presence of the leaders of the three countries.
