Kim Jong-Un Bans “Hamburger”, “Karaoke” and “Ice Cream”

The Chairman of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kim Jong-Un, has banned the words “hamburger,” “karaoke,” and “ice cream,” considering them too Western, and has called for these words to be replaced with domestic ones.

This is reported by The Sun.

Thus, tour guides receiving tourists from Russia and China at the Wonsan resort have been instructed to avoid Anglicisms that are popular in the West and in neighboring South Korea.

So, the word “hamburger” must be replaced with dajin-gogi gyeopppang (double bread with minced meat), and “ice cream” with eseukimo. Karaoke machines, widely used in South Korea, should be called “screen accompaniment machines.”
