One of the richest men in Egypt, Naguib Sawiris, is preparing for large-scale investments in the US economy. It is planned that over the next decade, his combined corporation will direct up to $50 billion towards the development of American infrastructure, with a particular focus on data centers.
These ambitious plans will be made possible by the expected merger of the chemical and fertilizer company OCI Global, owned by Sawiris, with the family construction giant Orascom Construction. The new combined entity will be registered in Abu Dhabi, which underscores its international character.
“The main direction for the next stage of our business development will be infrastructure – this is where we see the greatest prospects,” the businessman said, confirming the strategic focus on the American market.
The investments will include both the corporation’s own capital and funds from attracted partners. It is worth noting that Orascom Construction already has significant experience in the US through its subsidiary Weitz, acquired in 2012. Weitz has successfully implemented a number of large-scale projects, including the construction of data centers, airport terminals, and university dormitories.
Naguib Sawiris, whose fortune is estimated at nearly $9 billion, is the younger son of Onsi Sawiris, the founder of the large international conglomerate Orascom. This move marks a new chapter in the development of the family business and strengthens the position of Egyptian capital on the global stage.
