Muradova on the development of a bill on paid paternity leave in Azerbaijan UN meeting in New York

A bill is being developed in Azerbaijan that provides for the introduction of paid paternity leave.

As reported by Report, this was stated by the Chairperson of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs, Bahar Muradova, speaking at a high-level meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Muradova noted the significant achievements of the country in the field of gender equality: the number of areas where women’s labor is prohibited has been minimized, the legislative framework regulating domestic violence, child marriage and consanguineous unions has been improved, and exceptions related to the age of marriage have been abolished.

According to the committee chairperson, all these measures serve to protect the rights of women as well as to strengthen the ties between the family and society.

Bahar Muradova emphasized that Azerbaijan remains committed to the goals of gender equality, development and peace.

She drew attention to the fact that global efforts in this area over the past 30 years have yielded important results, noting that consistent reforms are also being carried out in Azerbaijan to strengthen the participation of women in education, healthcare, employment and decision-making.
