One-Sided Step: Poland Prepares to Shoot Down Russian Drones Over Ukraine Without NATO Sanction

Warsaw is preparing the legislative framework for an unprecedented step: Polish armed forces may receive the right to shoot down Russian drones and other objects over the territory of Ukraine.

The key and most resonant aspect of this initiative is that such actions can be carried out without prior coordination with NATO and the European Union.

To this end, the Polish government is introducing amendments to the law regulating the rules for deploying armed forces abroad. The draft law, initiated by the Ministry of Defense back in June, is at an advanced stage of consideration and is expected to be adopted in the near future. This step indicates Warsaw’s readiness for more proactive actions to ensure regional security.
