Negative population growth was recorded for the first six months of 2025 in Georgia – mortality exceeded birth rate, according to the website of the National Statistics Service “Sakstat”, writes Sputnik Georgia.
According to the agency’s materials, negative population growth has been recorded in Georgia since 2020.
According to “Sakstat”, in the period from January to June 2025, about 17.7 thousand children were born in Georgia, while the number of deaths reached 22.7 thousand people.
Negative population growth continues to be recorded in all regions of Georgia, except Adjara and Tbilisi.
The largest difference between mortality and birth rate was recorded in the Imereti region, where the negative population growth was 1.6 thousand. This is followed by the Samegrelo – Zemo Svaneti region with a population decline of 1.3 thousand and the Kakheti region – 901.
In Adjara, the population growth in the first half of 2025 was 296, in Tbilisi – 406.
