Baku. Simon Steele, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, called on the global community to make a decisive transition: climate promises declared in Baku must be immediately translated into tangible actions. This key statement was made in his video address presented at the “Climate Action Week” taking place in the capital of Azerbaijan.
Steele reminded that last year, marked by achieving a new global policy at the COP29 conference, clearly demonstrated that progress is possible if governments, businesses, and civil society act together and purposefully.
He highlighted the primary task: transforming national climate change plans into practical projects capable of attracting both public and private investments. To achieve this, he said, a complete synchronization of political decisions and business strategies is necessary, which will create a stable and predictable environment conducive to scaling environmental innovations.
Success, as Steele emphasized, is determined by two interconnected factors:
- Formation of project portfolios that precisely match each country’s priorities and business commercial interests.
- Development of partnerships combining public and private investments with advanced technologies and accumulated experience.
“We must strengthen mutual trust and cooperation,” the Executive Secretary stated. “Governments are required to create transparent and predictable conditions that minimize risks for investors. Businesses must not only invest funds but also actively share technologies and knowledge to accelerate solution implementation”.
The “Climate Action Week” in Baku is dedicated to this very goal. “The world is making an important transition: from words to projects, from projects to real actions. We must show that investments in climate measures are not a budget burden, but a strategic path to strong economies, resilient societies, and a safe future for the planet,” Simon Steele concluded.
