The Russian Foreign Ministry on the “Trump Route”

Russia will be able to discuss the transport corridor (“Trump’s route”) previously agreed upon in the United States between the territories of Armenia and Azerbaijan, when it sees the project’s details.

As reported by TASS, this was stated at a briefing by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“We would like to emphasize that we will be able to form a final understanding of how this transport route will work in practice only when we get acquainted with the specific details of this project. This has not happened yet,” she said.

Zakharova also stressed that the participation of non-regional players in the affairs of the South Caucasus, including the issue of unblocking communications, should be primarily oriented towards the interests of the countries of the region and their immediate neighbors.

In addition, the diplomat continued, a number of additional factors need to be taken into account. Zakharova added that Armenia is part of the single customs space of the EAEU, the “South Caucasus Railway” is a subsidiary of Russian Railways, and Russian border guards, in accordance with an international agreement, provide protection of the borders in the area where the mentioned route is expected to pass.
