Unity in Memory: How Religious Communities in Azerbaijan Jointly Honor Heroes of the Karabakh War

In Azerbaijan, representatives of all religious denominations demonstrate unity in honoring the memory of martyrs and supporting their families. This joint activity is a vivid manifestation of the country’s unique model of multiculturalism and unity.

This thought was emphasized by the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board (CMB) Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade at a meeting dedicated to the fifth anniversary of Remembrance Day. Heads of all major religious communities in the country participated in the event.

Allahshukur Pashazade reminded about the role of the clergy during the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020. He noted that clergy members worthily fulfilled their spiritual duty, seeing off fallen heroes regardless of their religious affiliation.

Moreover, according to him, heads of religious communities were actively working on the international arena. They brought the truth about the Second Karabakh War to the world community, countering disinformation and exposing war crimes.

The CMB Chairman also recalled that President Ilham Aliyev highly appreciated the clergy’s contribution to the overall victory in his speech in Shusha. Today, this solidarity continues to manifest itself in joint care for martyrs’ families and in common reverence for fallen warriors.
