Georgia is one of the world leaders in the number of foreign medical students per capita.

According to Caliber.Az, citing Georgian media, this is stated in a WHO report.

It is noted that they are attracted by the simple registration conditions, the almost complete absence of competition during admission, the relatively low cost of education ($6-10 thousand per year), the ease of obtaining student visas, and the high level of security in the country.

Bachelor’s degree medical education has become an important sector of the Georgian economy, and foreign students have become one of the significant sources of foreign currency inflow into the country, the report says.

WHO notes that 25 educational institutions in Georgia provide medical education in English, while in Armenia there are only 8, and in Moldova – one.

At the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year, 37.1 thousand foreign students were studying at Georgian universities, which is 20.9% more than in the previous year.

According to Geostat: foreigners make up 19.7% of the total number of students in higher educational institutions in Georgia.

The most popular field is healthcare and social welfare. It was chosen by 18.1 thousand foreign students.

31.4 thousand foreigners are studying in master’s programs, 5.6 thousand – in bachelor’s programs, and 18 – in professional programs.

There are 63 universities in Georgia – 44 private and 19 public. They have 187.8 thousand students.
