“Within the framework of the ‘Trump route’, everything should be on a reciprocal basis.”

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, emphasized that any agreements on the unblocking of regional communications with Azerbaijan, including the so-called “Trump route”, must be built exclusively on the principle of reciprocity and respect for sovereignty.

Speaking at a briefing in Yerevan, the head of government noted that the detailed discussion of all aspects of the agreements is still ahead. According to him, at this stage, only the general principles have been fixed, within the framework of which further negotiations will be conducted.

Pashinyan explained the position of Yerevan using a hypothetical example concerning transportation by rail through Nakhchivan to the Armenian Meghri. “We must ask ourselves whether we want our troops and weapons to pass through Nakhchivan, or not. When we decide that we want this, then we will start negotiations on this topic,” he said, making it clear that the right of passage through its territory for one side means a similar right for the other.

Thus, any issue related to the opening of transport corridors will be considered by Yerevan through the prism of the previously stated five key principles, including sovereignty, jurisdiction, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and reciprocity.
