China Responds to the West: The War in Ukraine is a Result of Security Problems in Europe Itself

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China stated that the root cause of the war in Ukraine is long-term contradictions in the European security system, and it is the European countries that should find a way to resolve them.

Thus, Beijing responded to recent calls by Western politicians to put pressure on Russia to end the conflict. A representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that China is neither the initiator nor a participant in the so-called “Ukrainian crisis”.

The diplomat also rejected accusations against Beijing, stating that it is “other parties”, not China, who do not want a ceasefire, are fueling the conflict, and benefiting from it. “Shifting responsibility to China will not solve the issue,” he noted.

China’s position is that the roots of the conflict lie in accumulated regional security problems. In Beijing’s view, the only correct path to resolution is creating a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security architecture through dialogue and negotiations. Such an approach, as China believes, should take into account the legitimate security interests of all involved parties.
