There is an interest in Armenia to bring the countries of the region closer together and create regional platforms.
This was told by the Deputy Director of the Topchubashov Center, Murad Muradov, who is in Yerevan to participate in the 108th seminar of the Rose-Roth Parliamentary Assembly of NATO.
According to him, the impressions of the trip are positive, and he has not yet encountered any negative situation: “I am glad that I am participating in such an event for the first time. The Armenian media showed great interest in my visit – I even had to give journalists detailed comments. So far, I have not felt any negative attitude towards myself.”
Muradov drew attention to the change in the overall rhetoric of the Armenian officials: “For example, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Ruben Rubinyan, and the Minister of Defense, Suren Papikyan, stated that they are satisfied with the content of the Washington agreement. According to them, the document reflects the principles of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity and opens up new opportunities for the region. Representatives of Armenia highly appreciate the role of the United States and, in particular, President Donald Trump.”
He added that Armenia is also awaiting US investments in road construction.
“Other messages were about adapting to NATO standards and moving towards the creation of a professional army. This means that they no longer have the former intention to continue the conflict with Azerbaijan. On the contrary, they are interested in bringing the countries of the region closer together and creating joint platforms. They highly appreciate such trips and welcome their organization at different levels,” the deputy director of the center emphasized.
