A court in Paris has delivered a verdict on the high-profile case of “Libyan financing” of the 2007 election campaign. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy (who held office from 2007-2012) was found guilty of complicity in a criminal conspiracy.

At the same time, two other serious charges against the former head of state were dropped — passive corruption and concealment of embezzlement of state funds. On these points, he was acquitted.
